What a calcium score tells you
The scan counts calcified plaque in the arteries that feed your heart and turns it into one number, the Agatston score. It is the single best test we have for finding heart disease in people who feel perfectly well.

The score measures calcified plaque only. A score of 0 lowers risk a great deal but does not rule out soft plaque, which is why the same visit includes an ECG, an echo and a cardiologist reading everything together.

- are under 40 with no family history: plaque is rarely visible yet, a consultation is the better first step
Your visit, step by step

- Arrive at Race Course Road. No fasting is needed for the scan. Bring earlier reports if you have them. Registration takes a few minutes.
- ECG and 2D echo. About 30 minutes with our cardiac technicians.
- The CT calcium score. You lie on the scanner table for about 10 minutes and hold your breath for a few seconds at a time. No injection, no dye, no tube to go into.
- Cardiologist consultation, same visit. The cardiologist reads your score with your ECG and echo and tells you what it means for you and what to do next.
Plan for about two hours in the hospital. Reports are shared the same day.
Is it safe?
This is a low-dose, non-contrast CT. The radiation is a fraction of a routine CT of the abdomen and comparable to a few months of natural background exposure. There is no dye and no needle, so it is safe for people with kidney problems or contrast allergy. Tell us if you are or may be pregnant.
What happens after the scan
A score of 0 usually means reassurance and a recheck in three to five years. A raised score means the plaque is real, and the cardiologist will set a plan the same day: what to change, which medicines make sense for you, and whether you need a further test. How much does a CT calcium score cost in Bangalore?
At Even Hospitals the CT calcium score is part of the ₹799 Heart Health Checkup, which also includes an ECG, a 2D echo and a cardiologist consultation. The MRP of the four together is ₹10,000. The scan alone at most centres in Bangalore costs ₹4,000 to ₹8,000.
Is a calcium score the same as an angiogram?
No. An angiogram looks for narrowings inside the arteries and needs dye and, for the conventional version, a catheter. The calcium score is a quick scan without dye that measures how much plaque has built up. It is a screening test for people without symptoms; an angiogram is a test for people with symptoms or a high score.
Do I need to fast?
Not for the scan, the ECG or the echo. If your cardiologist adds blood tests such as a lipid profile, those need 8 to 12 hours of fasting, so a morning slot is convenient.
How long does the whole checkup take?
About two hours from registration to the consultation, with the scan itself taking around 10 minutes.
When do I get the report?
The same day. The cardiologist goes through the score, ECG and echo with you during the visit and the reports are available on your Even account.
